Witch's & Ollie's + Nicoya Peninsula

Customized charters for 5 or more days are available to surf Witch's & Ollie's plus some of the best breaks on the Nicoya Peninsula. Minimum rates are similar to those noted for Nicoya Peninsula itinerary above, but will depend upon number of days and distance traveled. Please call for details and quote.

Charter Inclusions:

- All days and nights on board the Aquadesiac
- All meals, snacks, juice and bottled water
- Use of on-board equipment, including snorkeling and fishing gear
- Charters of 4 days or more include Group Airport Transfers between Liberia Airport and Playa Hermosa or Playas del Coco (on charter departure and return dates only). Transfers can be arranged for group members arriving separately for $50 per transfer. No credit given for unused transfers.

Charter Exclusions (extra costs apply):

- Sodas are available for $1.00 each (please give advance notice of your preferences)
- Alcoholic beverages: Beer, Wine and Cocktails $2.00 each (advance notice required) Corkage fees will apply if you prefer to bring your own wine or liquor.
- National park tickets for each day at Witch's / Ollie's: $15 per person, per day
- 10% Service & Fuel Surcharge. Rather than permanently raise our rates, we have added this (hopefully temporary) surcharge to all day and overnight charters in order to offset increases in fuel costs (over 100% in a 3-year period!) and taxes, plus recently imposed service fees now charged by many of our suppliers.
- Airport transfers from/to LIR (for charters of less than 4 days): $50 each way
- Immigration Facilitation Fees (Nicaragua Charters Only) for Saturday or Sunday arrival or departure: $50 per person for each applicable day

Minimum Number of Passengers / Exclusive Use of Aquadesiac:

All charters have a 4 passenger minimum (or equivalent rate) to guarantee departure, but we will combine smaller groups to meet this requirement. Maximum of 6 passengers in cabins.

Want the boat to yourselves? Exclusive use of the Aquadesiac is available with the equivalent rate for 6 passengers. Otherwise, we will combine smaller groups to book up to full capacity.

Panga Trips, Full Day and Half Day Charters: 

Full Day Charters on the Aquadesiac: $950 for up to 6 people
Each additional person $100 (Maximum 18 people) Perhaps you and your surf buddies have done "the panga thing" to Witch's and Ollie's in the past and have decided you deserve a relaxing boat ride, great chow and a comfortable "home base" on which to kick back between sessions this time. Or maybe you are a surfer traveling with others who would enjoy a memorable boat ride and a day of beachcombing or snorkeling while you surf two of Costa Rica's most famous breaks. If so, a day charter on the Aquadesiac is the perfect way to keep everyone happy -- and together! The Aquadesiac is also available for other types of excursions, such as snorkeling and beach tours, sunset cruises, bachelor / bachelorette parties and more. The 52-foot Aquadesiac has much more deck space and seating than most sailboats, so everyone can be comfortable, even with larger groups.
Rate includes: Breakfast, Lunch, Fresh Fruit, Snacks, Juice and Bottled Water.
Additional fees: 10% Fuel Surcharge, plus $15 pp national park ticket fees.

Full Day "Econo" Surf Trip on Panga: $325 for up to 5 people
Traveling on a more restricted budget, or maybe would like a more "adventurous" experience with the wind and ocean spray in your face? If so, we have the alternative for you! Our 27-foot panga will get you to Witch's and Ollie's for a day of surf (and a ride) that you won't soon forget!
Rate includes fresh fruit and bottled water. Bring anything else you'd like to eat or drink and keep it in our cooler, or pay a little extra for us to supply a light breakfast and lunch.
Additional fees: $15 pp national park ticket fees

Half Day Charter on Aquadesiac (no surfing): $500 for up to 6 people
Each additional person $50 (Maximum 22 people)
Rate includes: Fruit, Snacks, Juice & Bottled Water. Additional fee: 10% Fuel Surcharge

Witch's Rock and Ollie's Point

Surf world-famous Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s point -- accessible only by boat throughout much of the surf season -- on Aquadesiac, the only live-aboard surf charter boat with a permit to enter the national park waters where these breaks are located! No other vessel can offer what we do: hours of crowd-free surf before and after the pangas have come and gone. (Not to mention comfortable accommodations and great food!)

Nicaragua and Witch's Rock/Ollie's Point

Surf the best waves in both Northern Pacific Costa Rica and Southern Nicaragua! Why spend 2 or 3 days of your dream surf vacation traveling halfway across the world to and from your destination to spend your limited surf time at crowded breaks with flesh-eating reefs overrun by up to 8 or more charter boats, when you can fly to Costa Rica for less dough (and with less sleep deprivation!) and be surfing every single day of your trip at world-famous surf breaks in 2 countries? Compare airfare and the number of days you'll actually surf (and the number of waves you're likely to actually catch) and calculate the "cost per wave" before you decide where you'll get the most rides for your rupees!

Here's a detailed sample itinerary (for Sunday through Saturday 7-day charter):
Sunday late morning/early afternoon: We'll pick you up at Liberia airport and take you to Playas del Coco, where you can soak up some of the local culture while we deal with the immigration paperwork for you. Board Aquadesiac and kick back as we motor to Witch's Rock or Ollie's Point for afternoon surf. Enjoy a delicious dinner before dreaming of next day's surf as we motor to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
Monday-Thursday: Have breakfast on board as we clear customs at San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua on Monday morning then enjoy 4 days of surf in Nicaragua with more than 6 major breaks to choose from, including: Manzanillo, Colorado, Santana, Popoyo, Outer Reef, Astillero and more! Thursday afternoon or evening, motor overnight back to Costa Rica, anchoring near Ollie's Point or Witch's Rock.
Friday all day: Surf Ollie's Point and/or Witch's Rock. (With a little luck from the "surf gods" we may also be able to surf some secret spots, Isla Colorado and/or the Labyrinth.)
Saturday (dawn patrol): Surf Ollie's Point or Witch's Rock one last time (with no crowds). Disembark Aquadesiac approximately 11AM at Playas del Coco or Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste.

Nicoya Peninsula (Playa Grande to Mal Pais*)

The Nicoya Peninsula is a 100-mile stretch of coastline in the northern Pacific region of Costa Rica with some of the best surf this country has to offer. Many of these breaks are easily accessible by car (and therefore crowded whenever there's good surf to be had), but others require teeth-jarring 4x4 excursions over dirt roads and rivers before trekking through mosquito-ridden trails to arrive at the kind of uncrowded breaks you've only dreamed about. We'll save you the hassle and bruised kidneys by getting you on board the Aquadesiac in Playa Grande or Tamarindo and heading south to find the best breaks with the least number of surfers between there and Mal Pais!

Nicoya Peninsula and Witch's Rock / Ollie's Point

Ask for details about our customized Witch's & Ollie's + Nicoya Peninsula charters. We'll work with you to create the surf trip of a lifetime! (Minimum rates are similar to those noted for Nicoya itinerary above, with additional fuel surcharge for distance covered between Witch's and the Nicoya Peninsula.)

Why the $15 National Park Ticket Fees?

Witch's Rock and Ollie's Point are located in the protected waters of the Santa Rosa National Park. The national park ministry of Costa Rica known as the MINAE (pronounced "min-EYE") has issued special permits to a very limited number of commercial boat operators to bring surfers to these breaks. Every boat operator -- commercial or private -- must purchase a $15 ticket for every non-resident passenger on their boat -- whether surfing or not. In order to do so, they must first provide a passenger list with the passport information for each person. The MINAE patrols the park waters, checking each boat for tickets. Operators without a ticket for every passenger can be ordered to leave the park immediately. Only a limited number of tickets are sold each day to operators with permits, on a “first come, first served” basis. This requirement, plus their difficulty to access by land, make Witch's and Ollie's some of the least crowded of the most popular surf breaks in Costa Rica.

All of the other operators with permits use smaller boats known as pangas, none of which can offer overnight trips, so if you want dawn patrol and late afternoon sessions virtually to yourself, give us a call!

Note: If you decide to take a panga trip to Witch's and Ollie's and ours is booked, feel free to ask us for the list of other operators with MINAE permits so you can be sure to hire a legal panga. IF YOU HIRE A PANGA ON YOUR OWN, BE SURE TO TELL THE OPERATOR THAT YOU WILL WANT TO SEE YOUR PARK TICKETS BEFORE BOARDING -- THEN BE SURE TO ACTUALLY DO SO! If you are on a boat without a permit and the required tickets, you will be kicked out of park waters immediately if caught by the MINAE patrol boat! The first clues that you have hired a boat without a permit is a lower-than usual rate and not being asked for your passport information, so beware! IT'S NOT WORTH SAVING A FEW BUCKS TO BE PART OF THE PROBLEM; BE PART OF THE SOLUTION, INSTEAD! Help protect this beautiful country's national parks and keep Witch's and Ollie's from becoming overcrowded by only hiring a legal boat!
